The procedures for steam carpet cleaning can be broken down with these basic
elements.  Hot water flows up and through a tool called a spray extractor.
Sometimes this is also called a wand. Either of these tools can be powered with
a pump vacuum. The wand or spray extractor have jet nozzles that with
pressure penetrates down into the carpet.

This penetration then loosens soil, as well as grease and leaves your
carpet looking clean and bright.

You can find many makes and models of portable type carpet cleaners available.
You might want a small unit for those little jobs or larger commercial
type equipment for those bigger jobs you need to tackle.

You will also find what is called a truck mount carpet cleaner. These
units normally stay outside and the carpet cleaner brings a hose and
the wand into the area inside to be cleaned. Truck mount cleaners
are much more powerful than the portable type units, the
hot water, steam and the water recovery is noticeably more powerful. Truck
mount carpet cleaning systems use all types of power including diesel, propane and
gas.

After installing new carpet the manufacturer will usually suggest or
even mandate this type of cleaning to insure the most efficient soil and
stain removal. The technology of carpet cleaning equipment is becoming
more advanced and efficient every year.

Steam cleaning problems sometimes arise from using too much water
during the process making it difficult to dry the carpet in a reasonable
amount of time. If using an experienced Sacramento carpet cleaner that is using well
maintained equipment this problem will be eliminated.

CLEANING METHODS:
An overall trained carpet cleaner can offer a couple types of steam cleaning.
The first method would be traffic lane cleaning whereby the operator pre-
sprays those areas and agitate the prespray into the carpet. Then using a cleaning
solution injected though a wand extract using a hot water portable extractor
or a truck mount system.

An alternate method would use a free-rinse pre-spray using an emulsifier.
It would be sprayed onto the carpet and agitated into the carpet.

CLEANING PROCEDURES:
A.   Get equipment and supplies ready for use.
B.   Prepare your solutions for your free rinsing pre-spray.
C.   Prepare the rinsing solution for the solution tank.
D.   Prepare your room by making a plan and moving furniture if needed.
E.   Vacuum areas to be cleaned. A pile brush will help loosen
dirt making the vacuuming more thorough.
F.   Liberally pre-spray the areas to be steam cleaned. Only pre-spray sections at a time.
G.   Agitate the pre-spray into the carpet, let rest for 10 to 15 minutes be
sure not to let it dry out.
H.   Now you are ready to extract the section using a portable or truck mount
        carpet cleaner.
I.   Repeat these same cleaning steps until all the desired areas has been completed.
J.   When completely dry put back moved furniture.
K.   Clean all the equipment thoroughly.

Professionally cleaning your carpets on a regular basis will increase the lifespan of your carpet while keeping them looking and smelling great!
